Minister for Foreign Affairs Helen McEntee and Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora Neale Richmond have travelled to New York to represent Ireland at the United Nations High-Level Week. The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the delegation will participate in a series of diplomatic events and bilateral engagements focused on global security, multilateralism, and international development.

During her visit, McEntee is scheduled to co-host an event on Afghanistan in partnership with the Malala Fund to address the rights and education of Afghan women and girls. Her itinerary also includes laying a wreath at the 9/11 Memorial, holding bilateral trade and business meetings, and promoting Ireland’s candidacy for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council for the 2027–2029 term.

Speaking prior to her arrival, McEntee said foreign ministers and world leaders are gathering at a critical period, noting that ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Sudan will feature prominently in discussions. She emphasized that Ireland will continue to advocate for adherence to international humanitarian law and multilateral cooperation through the United Nations framework.

The Department of Foreign Affairs stated that Richmond’s programme will focus on humanitarian response, international development, and multilateral action at a time when global aid systems face significant strain.
