A man in his 50s has died following a single-vehicle road traffic collision in Athboy, County Meath, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 AM on 20 September 2026, when a car struck a premises on Connaught Street in Athboy. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's body was subsequently transferred to the mortuary at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

An Garda Síochána closed the section of Connaught Street where the collision took place to allow Forensic Collision Investigators to complete a technical examination. Local traffic diversions were put in place.

Gardaí at Kells Garda station are investigating the crash and have issued an appeal for witnesses. Authorities are asking any road users who were in the area of Connaught Street between 1:45 AM and 2:15 AM on Sunday—particularly those with camera or dashcam footage—to contact investigating officers.
