A man in his 40s has been charged following a collision between a lorry and a tractor on the Mary McAleese Boyne Valley Bridge near Drogheda, County Louth, on Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred shortly after 5:00 am on the M1 motorway, prompting a major response from emergency services and An Garda Síochána. The driver of the tractor was transported to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

Gardaí arrested a man in his 40s at the scene. He was subsequently charged and released from custody, with a court appearance scheduled at Drogheda District Court at a future date.

The incident caused significant congestion during the morning commute. Motorway traffic traveling southbound was temporarily diverted off the M1 between Junction 10 and Junction 9 through Drogheda town while emergency personnel worked to clear the vehicles. The motorway has since fully reopened.
