Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers has confirmed that household energy costs, particularly the rise in home heating oil prices, will receive specific consideration in upcoming Budget 2027 negotiations.

Speaking on Tuesday morning at Dublin Castle, where he was hosting an EU presidency meeting of cohesion ministers, Mr Chambers stated that energy pressures remain a central issue for families across the country as the government prepares its upcoming budgetary package.

"We're very conscious that energy costs are one of the central issues for families right across the country … and particularly the rise in home heating oil has been a specific consideration by Government," Mr Chambers said.

He stated that officials are examining options to deliver targeted assistance through the social protection system for the winter period. Mr Chambers noted that previous budget adjustments—including direct weekly supports and expanded eligibility under the Fuel Allowance scheme—provide the context for the measures under review for Budget 2027.

In addition to potential winter energy supports, Mr Chambers said the coalition continues to prepare a moderate income tax package aimed at assisting workers across the economy ahead of the final budget presentation next month.
