Minister of State for Employment, Small Business and Retail Alan Dillon has confirmed plans to sign a new Employment Regulation Order that will raise the minimum hourly rate of pay for security workers in Ireland to €16.15.

The legally binding order, which takes effect on Monday, 28 September 2026, amends the existing sectoral order and increases the baseline adult rate from €15.41 per hour. The updated rate sits significantly above Ireland's statutory national minimum wage, which currently stands at €14.15 per hour.

Announcing the approval, Dillon praised the contribution of frontline security personnel, stating that workers in the sector play an essential role in protecting property and individuals while supporting core industries such as retail, transport, entertainment, and financial services. He noted that the sector has continued to grow and evolve with higher levels of responsibility and professionalism.

The new pay rate was established following proposals formulated by the Security Industry Joint Labour Committee and subsequently adopted by the Labour Court. Joint Labour Committees consist of equal numbers of employer and worker representatives, working alongside an independent chair appointed by the Minister to negotiate terms and conditions within specific industries.
