Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have arrested a 70-year-old man in Dungannon, County Tyrone, on an Irish extradition warrant. The suspect is sought by authorities in the Republic of Ireland to stand trial for alleged sexual offences.

According to police statements, the allegations include rape, sexual assault, and false imprisonment relating to incidents reported to have occurred in County Galway in 2022. The arrest was carried out on Thursday by officers from the local policing team in Dungannon.

The man is scheduled to appear before the Laganside Extradition Court in Belfast on Friday. A spokesperson for the PSNI's International Policing Unit stated that the arrest demonstrates ongoing cross-border cooperation between Northern Ireland officers and An Garda Síochána to trace fugitives and bring them before the extradition courts.
