The family of Denis Walsh, a Cork man who went missing in 1992, has finally received closure after learning that he passed away in the UK two years ago.

Denis Walsh, from Cahergal in Cork, was 23 years old when he was last seen on March 9, 1992. For nearly three decades, his family searched for him, appealing for information and holding out hope for his return.

However, the mystery of his disappearance was resolved when Gardaí confirmed that human remains found in the UK in 2021 had been identified as those of Mr. Walsh. The identification was made through DNA analysis, which matched samples provided by his family.

According to Gardaí, Mr. Walsh's remains were discovered on a beach in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in April 2021. Following a lengthy investigation and collaboration between Irish and UK authorities, the DNA match was confirmed, bringing an end to the 29-year search.

In a statement, the Walsh family expressed their relief at finally having answers, while also mourning the loss of Denis. They thanked the public, the media, and the authorities for their support and assistance throughout the years.

"We are devastated by the news of Denis's passing, but we are also grateful to finally have closure," the family said. "We can now bring Denis home and lay him to rest."

Gardaí also extended their condolences to the Walsh family, acknowledging the difficult and painful journey they had endured since Denis's disappearance in 1992.
