DUBLIN — Preparations are being finalized for a two-day visit to Ireland by US President Donald Trump on September 12 and 13, which will feature a courtesy meeting with Irish President Catherine Connolly and bilateral discussions with Taoiseach Micheál Martin.

Trump is scheduled to arrive at Dublin Airport on Saturday, September 12, where he is expected to be met on the runway by Tánaiste Simon Harris. The Dublin portion of the itinerary will be focused primarily around Phoenix Park, beginning with a brief courtesy call to President Connolly at her official residence, Áras an Uachtaráin. Following the Áras meeting, Trump will hold bilateral talks with Taoiseach Micheál Martin at nearby Farmleigh House.

While President Connolly has previously voiced sharp criticisms of US foreign policy and international affairs during her parliamentary career, she committed during her presidential election campaign to adhering to official diplomatic protocols for visiting foreign heads of state. Addressing the planned meetings, Taoiseach Micheál Martin noted that it is proper and appropriate for Irish leaders to engage with the US president, citing the significant economic and cultural ties between Ireland and the United States.

The itinerary in Dublin may also include a ceremonial groundbreaking event for a planned new US embassy building in Ballsbridge. Following his engagements in the capital, Trump is expected to travel to his golf resort in Doonbeg, County Clare, which is hosting the 2026 Amgen Irish Open. A joint security operation involving An Garda Síochána and the Defence Forces is being coordinated across both locations, amid reports of planned demonstrations by political activists and neutrality campaigners.
