A 7.6 percent residential electricity price increase by Irish energy provider Pinergy comes into effect on Monday, 14 September 2026, impacting an estimated 28,000 domestic customers across Ireland. The rate adjustment is expected to add approximately €169 per year, including VAT, to a typical annual household electricity bill based on standard consumption rates.

The price adjustment, announced by the supplier in August, marks the company's first general residential price increase since October 2025. Pinergy confirmed that while unit rates for electricity are rising, daily standard standing charges for residential accounts remain unchanged.

Pinergy attributed the decision to persistent volatility and elevated pricing in international wholesale energy markets, linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions and conflict in the Middle East. Pinergy Chief Executive Enda Gunnell stated that the supplier's hedging strategy had previously helped insulate customers from market spikes, but noted that the scale and duration of wholesale cost pressures made a tariff change unavoidable.

The price adjustment arrives amid ongoing cost-of-living concerns and follows several rate revisions announced across the broader Irish energy market during recent months. Consumer groups and financial advice services recommend that domestic users review their tariffs and monitor usage to manage household energy expenses.
