An Garda Síochána has participated in a major international law enforcement initiative that uncovered a mobile drug extraction laboratory in rural County Kildare believed to be operated on behalf of the Kinahan organized crime cartel.

The operation revealed an illicit smuggling method in which cocaine was chemically impregnated into imported sheets of plywood shipped from Colombia. According to law enforcement authorities, South American cartel specialists trained local associates to extract the drug using chemical solvents inside a specially fitted truck trailer.

During the search operation, Gardaí and Revenue Customs officers recovered approximately 74 kilograms of cocaine extracted from the plywood, with an estimated street value of €5.2 million. Authorities also seized 32 kilograms of suspected herbal cannabis, valued at around €640,000, along with chemical processing equipment. Three men were arrested and subsequently charged in connection with the Kildare raid as court proceedings continue.

The raid formed part of Operation Atlas Nexus, a global law enforcement action co-ordinated by the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT), Frontex, and the Caribbean Community Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS). Involving agencies from 34 countries alongside Europol, Interpol, and police forces across the Americas and Europe, the multi-agency crackdown resulted in nearly 500 arrests and the seizure of 156 tonnes of illicit drugs worldwide.
