Gardaí have launched an investigation following a serious assault in County Meath on Monday morning, 7 September 2026, which left a young man severely injured and resulted in the arrest of a suspect.

Emergency services were called to a residential property in the village of Ballivor shortly after 7:00 am following reports of an altercation. A man in his 20s sustained severe injuries during the incident and was initially transported to Regional Hospital Mullingar. He was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin for specialist care.

In connection with the investigation, Gardaí subsequently arrested a man in his 40s. He was taken into custody and detained at a Garda station in County Meath under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, which allows for questioning for up to 24 hours.

Forensic investigators from the Garda Technical Bureau completed an examination of the property in Ballivor. A senior investigating officer has been appointed to direct the probe, operating from an incident room set up at Trim Garda Station.

An Garda Síochána has issued an appeal for witnesses and anyone who was in the Ballivor area on Monday morning to come forward. Investigators are specifically requesting any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings from drivers who passed through the village around the time of the incident.
