Gardaí have launched an investigation and appealed for witnesses following a fatal hit-and-run collision on the Clare-Limerick border on Friday night, September 4.

Emergency services were alerted shortly after 11 p.m. when an e-bike rider, a boy in his mid-teens, was found unresponsive at the roadside on the L3050 at Cottage Cross near Cloonlara. Paramedics attended the scene, but the teenager was pronounced dead.

An Garda Síochána stated that a second vehicle involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene.

The area was preserved to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct a technical examination of the site, with local traffic diversions put in place. The local coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination is due to be arranged.

Investigating officers at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or was traveling in the Cloonlara area at the time to come forward. Gardaí have also requested that any road users with dash-cam or camera footage from the vicinity around 11 p.m. make it available to investigators.
