A prominent official with the Garda Representative Association (GRA) has been served with an internal disciplinary notice by An Garda Síochána following public comments made to the media regarding workplace issues.

The Dublin-based representative was issued the notice after discussing frontline concerns, including challenges surrounding pursuit training for officers, in statements published by The Irish Times. The GRA expressed shock at the move, describing the disciplinary action as unexpected and confirming its intention to rigorously defend the representative.

In response to inquiries regarding the matter, An Garda Síochána stated that it does not comment on individual internal disciplinary procedures. However, the force issued a general statement reiterating its clearly defined policy on who is permitted to speak to news outlets regarding operational matters.

Garda management noted that it has repeatedly advised GRA leadership of the relevant stipulations in the Garda code over recent years, adding that senior management wrote to the representative body earlier in the month regarding the issue. The force emphasized that it respects the statutory mandate of staff associations under Irish legislation to represent members on matters concerning pay, welfare, efficiency, and working conditions.
