An informal three-day meeting of European Union agriculture ministers has opened in Ireland as part of the country's Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Running from Sunday, September 6, through Tuesday, September 8, the summit is chaired by Ireland's Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD. Delegations comprising national ministers, European Commission representatives, and senior officials have gathered at Dublin Castle, with scheduled visits to agricultural research and heritage sites across County Kildare.

Central to the ministerial talks are the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of European livestock farming, European food security, generational renewal in rural areas, and early policy discussions regarding the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Delegates are also examining research and innovation goals tied to the European Protein Plan, which targets increased production of protein crops within the bloc.

To facilitate the gathering, An Garda Síochána implemented localized traffic restrictions, security escorts, and rolling road closures around Dublin Castle, Ballsbridge, and key routes into County Kildare. Temporary airspace and drone restrictions were also enacted across designated event venues.

The gathering is among 22 informal ministerial meetings hosted in Ireland during its six-month tenure leading the Council of the European Union, which runs through the end of December.
