Irish energy provider Energia has announced price increases for its residential electricity and gas tariffs, effective from October 12. The adjustments will add an estimated €230 to average annual dual-fuel bills as energy suppliers across Ireland adjust charges ahead of the winter months.

Under the new pricing structure, domestic electricity rates will increase by an average of 4.73%, adding approximately €1.67 per week, or €87 per year, to a standard bill. The company's annual electricity standing charge will also rise by 5%. Gas customers face a larger increase of 9.38%, which equates to an additional €2.74 per week, or roughly €142 annually, for typical consumption. Gas standing charges will remain at current levels.

Energia, which supplies over 200,000 residential customers in Ireland, attributed the decision to ongoing volatility in global wholesale energy markets and increased electricity network charges. Company representatives noted that this marks the firm's first domestic gas price increase since 2022.

Gary Ryan, Managing Director of Customer Solutions at Energia, said the company was reluctant to alter prices but described the adjustment as necessary given current market conditions. Ryan encouraged customers facing payment difficulties to contact the supplier's customer support services or partner advisory organizations.

The announcement comes shortly after price increases confirmed by other major domestic energy providers, including Bord Gáis Energy and SSE Airtricity, as households prepare for increased heating usage during the autumn and winter periods.
