A Dublin-based garda has been sent forward for trial to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in connection with an alleged assault in the city centre.

Pearse Street station-based Garda Patrick Moloney appeared before Judge Michele Finan at Dublin District Court, where he was served with the prosecution's book of evidence. The officer did not address the court during the hearing.

Mr Moloney is accused of assaulting a male, causing him harm, contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997. The charge relates to an alleged incident at Wellington Quay in Dublin 2 on 9 October 2024.

Judge Finan noted that the Director of Public Prosecutions had authorised trial on indictment. She granted an order sending Mr Moloney forward to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, where his case will be listed for mention on 29 October.

During the proceedings, the judge administered the standard caution regarding alibi notice requirements and ordered the disclosure of interview videos to the defence. Represented by solicitor Liz Hughes, Mr Moloney has yet to enter a plea and was remanded on bail of €200.
