University Hospital Limerick (UHL) has drawn up a specialized emergency contingency plan to handle potential medical emergencies involving US President Donald Trump during his visit to his resort in Doonbeg, County Clare.

As part of security and medical protocols established ahead of the trip, officials from the US Embassy and members of the Secret Service conducted site visits to the hospital campus in Dooradoyle. A secluded section of the facility has been identified to allow several private rooms to be prepared on short notice, alongside reserved access to an operating theatre if required.

Under the arrangement, supplies of the US President's blood type have been placed on standby. Medical personnel not scheduled to work over the weekend have also been requested to remain available on call to report for duty should an urgent situation arise.

Transport logistics are being coordinated in conjunction with An Garda Síochána to ensure emergency transit routes connecting West Clare to the Dooradoyle hospital campus can be cleared swiftly. A dedicated helicopter flight path has also been established in the event air evacuation is needed.

Hospital sources indicated that while advance medical site visits and VIP protocols are routine for US presidential visits near Shannon Airport, the measures put in place for the weekend operate independently from the Mid-West region's standard Major Emergency Plan.
