Republic of Ireland international striker Troy Parrott scored his first goal for Real Betis on Friday night, coming off the bench to earn a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in La Liga.

The 24-year-old Dubliner was introduced in the 69th minute for his home debut in Seville following his recent transfer from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar. Parrott made an instant impression, troubling the Real Madrid backline before delivering the decisive blow nine minutes from time.

The game's winning moment arrived from a Real Betis corner in the 81st minute. After Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois parried a headed effort from Nelson Deossa, Parrott reacted quickest to the loose ball and drilled a close-range strike high into the net.

The final minutes produced immense drama as Real Madrid pushed for an equalizer. Carlos Espi appeared to bring the visitors level in the 87th minute with a spectacular overhead kick, but the goal was disallowed following a VAR review for offside.

Deep in injury time, Real Madrid were awarded a penalty following a foul by Natan on Vinícius Júnior. However, Real Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Valles produced a crucial save to stop Kylian Mbappé's 94th-minute spot-kick, preserving the lead and sealing a famous win for Manuel Pellegrini's side.
