Republic of Ireland international striker Troy Parrott marked his UEFA Champions League debut with the match-winning goal on Tuesday, helping Real Betis secure a 3-2 victory away against French side Lille.

The 24-year-old Dubliner scored in the 53rd minute at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, pouncing on defensive uncertainty from Lille defender Nathan Ngoy before placing a left-footed finish into the net. The goal capped a second-half comeback for Manuel Pellegrini's side, who had twice trailed during the match.

Lille initially took the lead in the 12th minute through Ayasa Ueda, before Real Betis defender Marc Bartra equalised on 33 minutes. Alexsandro restored the home side's advantage shortly after, but Bartra scored his second of the night four minutes after halftime to pull Betis level once again. Parrott's clinical strike four minutes later gave Betis their first lead of the contest.

Lille were later reduced to ten men when substitute Ethan Mbappé received a red card for an elbow. Parrott came close to extending Betis's lead in stoppage time, striking the woodwork with a long-range curling effort in the final moments of the game.

The debut goal concludes a notable week for Parrott following his summer transfer to Real Betis from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. Four days prior to the Champions League fixture, the Dublin native came off the bench to score an 81st-minute winning goal against Real Madrid in La Liga.
