RTÉ has confirmed that Ireland will not participate in or broadcast the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria, maintaining its stance from the previous year.

In a statement released on Thursday, the national broadcaster said that Ireland's involvement in the contest could not be justified given the ongoing loss of civilian lives and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. RTÉ also highlighted its continued concerns over the denial of independent access for international journalists to the territory.

The decision marks the second consecutive year that Ireland, which holds a joint-record seven Eurovision victories, will abstain from the competition. RTÉ previously withdrew from the 2026 contest in Vienna alongside public broadcasters from several other European nations following the European Broadcasting Union's decision to permit Israel's participation.

Eurovision Song Contest Director Martin Green expressed regret regarding RTÉ's decision while acknowledging the broadcaster's historical contribution to the event. He noted that the European Broadcasting Union respects RTÉ's decision and will maintain open dialogue regarding potential future participation.
