Munster Rugby has confirmed that its Chief Executive Officer, Ian Flanagan, will step down from his position at the end of October.

Flanagan, who has spent five years leading the Irish provincial rugby organisation, has decided to depart his role. During his tenure, he oversaw significant developments within the province, navigating the organisation through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and securing key commercial partnerships.

Under his leadership, Munster Rugby achieved notable milestones, including the United Rugby Championship title victory in 2023, which marked the province's first major silverware in over a decade. Flanagan also played a central role in managing the redevelopment and commercial growth of Thomond Park and Musgrave Park, enhancing the matchday experience and securing long-term stability for the professional game in Munster.

The Munster Rugby Board has expressed its gratitude to Flanagan for his dedication, leadership, and contribution to the province over the past five years. The process to recruit a successor for the Chief Executive role is expected to begin shortly, with the organisation aiming to ensure a smooth transition of leadership ahead of the upcoming phases of the rugby season.

Flanagan's departure marks the end of a significant chapter for Munster Rugby as the province continues its campaigns in both domestic and European competitions.
