Munster GAA has dropped plans to table a motion that would move the All-Ireland senior hurling final from July to August, following opposition from all six member counties within the province.

The provincial council had floated the potential schedule change earlier in the summer in an effort to extend hurling's promotional window and address scheduling imbalances between inter-county football and hurling fixtures. However, following consultations with county executives, officials confirmed the proposal will not be advanced.

"We met with all the counties last week," Munster GAA chief executive Kieran Leddy told the Irish Examiner. "County secretaries and the county game managers were there as well because we had a long agenda, but one of the items on the agenda was the season structure. The feedback from the six counties is that they would prefer the calendar to be left as it is. In other words, they don't want to pursue an August hurling final."

Leddy confirmed that Munster GAA would respect the decision of the member counties—Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford—which manage local club championship calendars. Delegates also expressed opposition to a separate suggestion regarding the introduction of four All-Ireland hurling quarter-finals.

"As far as we're concerned, we're obviously not going to propose this if the counties are not supporting it, so we won't be doing anything on it at this stage," Leddy added.
