Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for five western and north-western counties, warning of heavy rainfall, potential thunderstorms, and localized flooding overnight into Saturday morning.

The alert covers counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo, coming into effect at 9:00 PM on Friday, 11 September, and remaining active until 9:00 AM on Saturday, 12 September. According to the national forecaster, persistent rain combined with localized thunderstorms could create difficult travelling conditions, poor visibility, and lightning damage across the region.

A secondary Status Yellow rain warning has also been issued for Cork and Kerry, taking effect from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Saturday. Met Éireann forecasts generally unsettled weather across the country over the weekend, with heavy rain clearing southwards to scattered showers accompanied by moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.
