Four Israeli triathletes scheduled to compete in the Europe Triathlon Cup event in Derry have been removed from the official start list following objections lodged by the host club. The North West Triathlon Club (NWTC), which helps organize the local event, raised concerns regarding athlete and public safety, potential event disruption, and community sentiment related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. World Triathlon subsequently confirmed the competitors were withdrawn with immediate effect following a request from the Israeli National Federation.

In a public statement, the NWTC stated that international athlete registrations fall under the authority of European and global governing bodies rather than local host clubs. The club said it immediately made strong representations to Triathlon Ireland and Europe Triathlon after learning of the entries on a provisional start list. The NWTC stated that its position was not directed at individual athletes because of their religion or ethnicity, but concerned the representation of the State of Israel in international sport during ongoing Palestinian suffering.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed that law enforcement had become aware of potential protest activity related to the race through social media channels. Triathlon Ireland confirmed that the official event start list contains no athletes representing Israel and noted that preparations for the weekend competition are continuing as planned.

The withdrawal generated mixed political reactions in Northern Ireland. Democratic Unionist Party MLA Julie Middleton criticized the outcome, describing the exclusion as an unfortunate reflection on the city and arguing that an event intended to demonstrate openness had instead become associated with barring athletes by nationality. Meanwhile, Social Democratic and Labour Party MLA Mark Durkan and local campaigning groups welcomed the decision, citing public anger and opposition to Israel's involvement in the international event.
