Irish racing driver Alex Dunne secured his first FIA Formula 2 victory of the 2026 season on Friday, delivering an assured drive from pole position to win the opening feature race at the Baku City Circuit in Azerbaijan. The 20-year-old Offaly native, driving for Rodin Motorsport, led home a one-two finish for his team, crossing the line ahead of teammate Martinius Stenshorne. Dino Beganovic finished third for DAMS Lucas Oil to complete the podium. Dunne made a strong start to hold the lead into Turn 1 and subsequently managed safety car restarts and a red-flag stoppage triggered by a multi-car accident. The time-limited race ran to 23 laps, with Dunne holding the lead to claim his maiden victory of the season following seven previous podium finishes this year. The maximum points haul elevates Dunne to 174 points in the drivers' championship standings, placing him third overall behind new championship leader Rafael Câmara on 182 points and Nikola Tsolov on 181 points with two race weekends remaining.
