Donegal GAA has confirmed that Jim McGuinness will continue as the county's senior football manager for the 2027 season, following a county committee meeting on Monday night, 7 September 2026. The ratification triggers the option of a fourth year in his second spell managing the senior footballers.

The county board also approved a new two-year extension for senior hurling manager Michael McCann. McCann, who took charge in late 2017 ahead of the 2018 campaign, is set to enter his tenth season leading the county’s senior hurling team.

McGuinness returned to the Donegal football dugout in August 2023 on an initial three-year term with a fourth-year option. In his first managerial tenure from 2010 to 2014, he led Donegal to three Ulster titles and the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. During his current spell, he added two further provincial titles and guided the county to the 2025 All-Ireland final.

Donegal’s 2026 inter-county campaign featured a National Football League Division 1 title and a victory over Kerry in Killarney, but ended prematurely after a provincial loss to Down and subsequent All-Ireland series defeats to Cork and Dublin. The board's confirmation provides continuity for both senior teams as preparations turn toward the 2027 inter-county season.
