The opening ceremony for the 51st Walker Cup match between Great Britain & Ireland and the United States took place on Friday at Lahinch Golf Club in County Clare, marking the first time the historic amateur golf tournament is hosted at the venue.

According to tournament organizers and local reporting, thousands of spectators are expected to visit the North Clare seaside town across the weekend. The match features ten-player teams competing in two days of foursomes and singles match play on Saturday and Sunday.

Great Britain & Ireland, captained by Dean Robertson, are seeking to reclaim the trophy against a United States side captained by Nathan Smith. The U.S. team enters the contest having won the past five editions of the event, most recently claiming victory at Cypress Point in 2025.

Local businesses in Lahinch, including Vaughan's Lodge Hotel, noted the unusual setup of accommodating both competing squads under one roof during the tournament. Officials from Clare County Council stated that the Walker Cup, alongside the forthcoming Amgen Irish Open in Doonbeg, is anticipated to deliver a major tourism boost to the local economy.

Lahinch Golf Club, founded in 1892 along Liscannor Bay, previously staged major international events including the 2019 Irish Open and the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup.
