Donegal County Council has been granted €150,000 in capital funding to support the development of dedicated artist workspaces in Lurganboy, Donegal Town.

The allocation was announced by Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O'Donovan as part of a €377,336 national funding round for local authorities. Under the same package, Wexford County Council was awarded €150,000 for a workspace project in Wexford Town, and Carlow County Council received €77,336 for a facility in Tullow.

The funding is delivered through the Artist Workspaces Scheme, a €6 million capital programme established to help local authorities increase capacity and provide affordable physical studios for visual artists and creative practitioners. The scheme offers grants of up to €150,000 for local authority areas with lower population density and up to €300,000 for higher-density urban locations.

According to the Department, the latest round brings total expenditure committed under the Artist Workspaces Scheme to €1,586,190 since its launch in June 2024. The capital investment initiative aligns with government objectives under Project Ireland 2040 to expand arts infrastructure and support creative practice nationwide.
